The Free Software Foundation have announced the final release of the GNU General Public License, Version 3. The GNU GPL is the most widely used free software license worldwide: almost three quarters of all free software packages are distributed under this license. The new version of the GPL brings the license up-to-date with better internationalization, gentler termination, support for BitTorrent, and compatibility with the Apache license. For more information please see the GPLv3 FAQ and and Richard Stallman's article, Why Upgrade to GPL Version 3.
